IBM has announced details of a smaller lower powered version of the Cell processor that powers the Playstation 3. The Cell is currently fabricated on IBM's 65nm process but IBM will soon move to make the chip using a next-generation 45nm high-k process.''The 45nm Cell will use about 40 percent less power than its 65nm predecessor, and its die area will be reduced by 34 percent. The greatly reduced power budget will cut down on the amount of active cooling required by the console, which in turn will make it cheaper to produce and more reliable (this means fewer warrantied returns). Also affecting Sony's per-unit cost is the reduction in overall die size. I think it is inevitable but not this year. Just like the 360 announced and delivered the 65nm CPU chip last year...and has announced the 65nm GPU chip for this summer...and announced last fall that the 45nm was also in development.My point being that this is absolutely normal. Will most assuredly happen. Will likely be available on the 360 first. Not that it matters who is first per se because it is good for consumers and will help get systems down to $199 and below which is good for everyone.

My Wii is a $249 charging station for my PS3 controllers.

Data capacity of bluray has proven nothing to benefit gaming yet (30GB games? lol where?)
Better technical specs balance with motion sensing, and don't forget I already have a 360.
Better sound... Hardly noticable with the equipment I'm currently playing.
I barely play online in games. When I [I]do[/I] play online, it's on PC.

So are those 2 games I want to play really worth 300 euro, against the Wii which has games I love (almost every main Nintendo IP) and does something new then just setting a new graphical standard for consoles?

|There is no reason for Sony to drop the PS3 to $300 barring a total disaster on their part. They spent their first 12 months slashing the PS3's price, any more significant price cuts and the general public are going to assume there's something seriously wrong with the PS3. Sony also has a huge potential 08 lineup (potential because titles like FFXIII and GT5 could likely slip into 09) and they've lost so much money on the PS3 so far they need to turn a profit sooner rather than later. The only reason to bother offering a $300 PS3 is if the PS3's sales absolutely tank or if MS comes out with some ludicrous $100-200 price cut to the 360.
