Did not see anyone post this so....1UP Changes Scoring Policy, Letters To Replace Numbers''...it'll more accurately convey how we feel about a game. I mean, we knew a 5 out of 10 meant 'average' to us, but no one else seemed to get the clue. So we're changing things around so that anyone who's gone to school will instantly know how we feel when they see our letter grade on a game review.''Should Gamespot have gone with this route too? Discuss1UP Changes Scoring Policy, Letters To R ...
Dont make anyhting big of it...its only because they cant count.1UP Changes Scoring Policy, Letters To R ...
Robert Christgau style...
The big question is how much will an A cost?
Gamespot's old system was flawless, and I'm against letter grades.
Honestly I don't care about reviews anymore so this news doesn't affect me.
''In addition to the reorganization, 1UP Network is making changes with its game scoring system on 1UP.com, in EGM and in GFW. Games will be graded on a letter scale, A+ to F, rather than a numerical scale. All previously scored games on 1UP.com will also be converted to the new letter scale. Look out for these changes in March on 1UP.com, in the April issue of EGM and in the April/May issue of GFW.''
Gamespot's old system was flawless, and I'm against letter grades.
Yeah I also liked the old rating system. Notice how much more there are ''off the road'' reviews compared to the reviews before the changes.
cool. i like it. keep it simple none of this ''omg this games is sooooo a 7.8948498730987''
I like :D, GS should really think about it, if it ends up working out for 1up.
thumbs up or thumbs down is the way to go in my opinion, and let the review do the talking
Does this mean that EGM might make the same change?
That's awesome! That is my favorite Review Scale. A, B, C, D, %26 F's with an occasional + or - added to the end of it. I think having 1-10 review scale is worthless if the majority of games are in the 6-10 range.
Will always prefer numbers :(
Sounds inaccurate. Its even more inaccurate than GS' .5 system. I still think IGNs system is best. 1.0-10.0 for every aspect and then finally a 1.0-10.0 for the entire thing (which is not the average score of the scores the different aspects got).
It'd be a problem for high school / college students who are used to getting straight As and higher...A B+ or A- rated game, despite it being the equivalent of a a 7.7-8.2 and consequently, a good ~ great title by Gamespot standards, would appear weak to them, lol.

Yet if It got a 7/10 or something like that I'm like oh 7/10 means it's a good game ok I'll buy if it looks my style, hahaha sad isn't it?
Gamespot's old system was flawless, and I'm against letter grades.
It's not flawless. The game could have terrible gameplay, but good graphics, sound, and replayability, and it could still be an A game. I think the game should be ranked entirely on fun factor and replayability. Graphics and sound only add to that.
I like numerical scores best. Never cared for letters, stars etc.
